About Kate

I’ve provided adult mental health counseling for nearly 20 years in central Ohio. I am a licensed independent social worker with supervision designation. I received my masters in social work from OSU in 2005 and undergraduate degree in psychology at Ohio University in 2003.

I am the owner of Nelsen Counseling Services and established the practice in 2019. It may be confusing why my practice is named Nelsen Counseling Services when my last name is Vessels. I wanted to honor my maiden name by making it my business name.

I won’t bore you with my credentials and experience (you can always ask). I live in Dublin, Ohio with my husband, two young children, and our mini Bernedoodle Stella. They are thriving and keeping me on my toes! I love animals, spending time with family & friends, Harry Potter, Bravo TV, and celebrity gossip (I can’t help myself).

Kate Vessels,

Kate’s Approach to Therapy

I work with women from all walks of life suffering from undiagnosed (or recently diagnosed) ADHD. My clients have spent a lifetime trying everything to act normal, fit in and be as good as everyone else. My clients are so overwhelmed they don’t know where to start. I meet every client where they are at and what they are willing to change.

I believe a client should go at their own pace in counseling. I believe in inclusivity and welcome all to Nelsen Counseling Services. I am active in sessions by providing support, education, validation, empathy, skills/interventions, appropriate humor, and constructive feedback. I provide a collaborative process to help you meet your goals. We will identify real life solutions, practice strategies and incorporate your ADHD strengths to maximize progress on your goals.

I offer a variety of interventions to turn your life around. Interventions include ADHD education, strategies to manage it, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing-works faster than traditional talk therapy!) , dialectical behavioral therapy, ego state therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and the flash technique. It’s okay if you have never heard of these interventions. I am happy to educate you on each intervention and how they will work best for you.
